Music and Happiness, the 2000s

For those of us who remember the 2000s, it was a decade of happy and, in many cases, silly music. Some of our favorites are in our Top Ten, but feel free to leave us a comment on which songs made you smile from this fun and crazy decade.

Hey Ya!” by Outkast. What an amazing video! Andre 3000 played every role in the video, and it is amazing how many people played this song at their wedding especially since it is a breakup song!

I Gotta Feeling” by The Black Eyed Peas. This song was probably played at every wedding, Quinceanera, birthday, homecoming and prom. There is probably no one who doesn’t hear this song and just start dancing.

Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus. Back to simpler time, when we didn’t have to check our phones or worry about making it to a meeting. Almost 12 years later and so many of us still bop in our car or have a little pep in our step when this comes on.

The Sweet Escape” by Gwen Stefani ft. Akon. Only in the 2000s could a song have the lyrics “Woohoo Yeehoo” and be so stuck in our heads that we still scream that part in our friend’s face a dozen years later.

Pocketful of Sunshine” by Natasha Bedingfield. This song really does sum up how we all kinda feel these days: “Take me a away to better days.” We could all use a Pocketful of Sunshine!!

All Star” by Smash Mouth. You are in one of two boats: You laugh at the intro to this video because it is from Mystery Men or you know this sone from Shrek. Either way, you can’t help to love this song. In an alternate universe where Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” was never produced, this would be the Rick Roll in that universe, and how lucky they would be!

So What” by Pink.  The antics that Pink does in this video just make it so funny and the lyrics just make you want to sing along. The fact that she wrote that song about her ex-husband and then asked him to be on the video and after they got back together just makes her more of a goddess.

Weapon of Choice” by Fatboy Slim. Spike Jonze directed this video which won multiple awards on MTV in 2001, back when they actually showed videos. Christopher Walken was 57 when he made this, and though he was a classically trained tap dancer, they needed a stunt double for the part where he hung from the roof; pretty much everything else was him…I wish.

Hey Soul Sister” by Train. This is one of those songs that brings us back to simpler times, where there was Corona in our hands and smiles on our lips, instead of Corona in the air and masks covering our smiles. Still waiting for those good ol’ times to come back.

Upside Down” by Jack Johnson. Maybe because Curious George was our son’s and our favorite movie when he was a baby, this song and the cute, innocent way that the song seamlessly fits the movie, we can’t help but include it in our top ten.
